entry reader
What is this?
This ljArchive plugin reads your journal entries aloud using text-to-speech technology. The entries are read by an on-screen customizable agent.
Required Updates
If you are running Windows 98 and the Entry Reader plugin isn't loading (if it doesn't load, you won't see it in the plugins menu), you'll need to install the Microsoft Agent Core Components, a Microsoft Agent Character file, and a Text-to-speech engine from here:
Microsoft Agent downloads for end-users
If you are running Windows XP and aren't hearing any sound when you run the Entry Reader, download this speech driver update from Microsoft.com:
Microsoft SAPI 4.0a runtime (824 KB exe)
Recommended Updates
The default text-to-speech engine distributed with Windows is low quality. Microsoft has made available a better text-to-speech engine for American English:
Lernout & Hauspie® TruVoice TTS engine - American English (1 MB exe)
Windows comes standard with one character (Merlin), but many others are available for download:
- Microsoft Agent character files (download Peedy!)
- e-Clips
- the Agentry
